Update 06/01/2025

Why are so many against Israel’s continued attacks in Gaza?  One headline:

Israeli Strikes Kill 52 In Gaza, Including 36 In A School-Turned Shelter, Medics Say

I also read a report that a doctor in Gaza had 10 kids, and 9 of them were killed in a bombing.  While I do not believe the Hamas’ head counts, the UN people say similar things.

My definition of a real estate developer:  A real estate developer is one who would fill the Grand Canyon with water, if he thought he could make money selling lake-front property.

And on Memorial Day:  President Donald Trump marked Memorial Day by posting an all-caps rant on social media that attacked Democrats as “scum” and condemned federal judges as “monsters.”  Trump’s grievance-filled message on Truth Social on Monday, posted on a day of somber reflection for most Americans, saw the president also smear immigrants as “criminals” and “mentally insane.” – Of course, you ignore the fact that his wife (3rd) is an immigrant.  Maybe he wanted to lay a wreath somewhere, you know, with his logo on it?  Or one from Mar-a-Lago?  Wait, maybe his new Bitcoin business?  You know, “This Memorial Day sponsored by $Trump coin!”

Didja Know Dept.:  Despite their name and undeniably nutty characteristics, peanuts are not nuts at all. They are, in fact, legumes.

We have long thought that Trump was manipulating the stock market so he and family could order puts and calls, and make money on the way up or down.  And just today (Tuesday):

New York CNN  —  Rinse, repeat.

Stocks rose Tuesday after President Donald Trump did a 180-degree turn on his threat to place a massive 50% tariff on goods imported from the European Union. – The Dow went up 740 pts. Should I rest my case?

From Robert Reich: “Was your Memorial Day BBQ more expensive this year? A big reason why is corporate concentration. Just four companies now control processing of 80 percent of beef, nearly 70 percent of pork, and almost 60 percent of poultry. Fewer competitors means higher prices for you.” – As in the note about four airlines having the majority of the business.

Have you been following all of Trump’s recent pardons?  Like this one:  Trump on Wednesday commuted the sentences of eight individuals, including Larry Hoover, the notorious co-founder of Chicago’s Gangster Disciples street gang. He was serving six life prison sentences in the federal supermax facility in Florence, Colorado.  (quote from his lawyer:  “We did what so many said was impossible,” a Hoover attorney, Justin Moore, told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday. “We got Larry Hoover out of federal prison.”)  A nice guy Trump pardoned, evidence here:  Hoover is also serving a sentence of up to 200 years on state murder charges in Illinois.   And there is the sheriff of Culpepper County, VA. Who was filmed taking cash bribes up to $10,000 for giving out deputy badges.  Again, he was convicted by a jury and Trump let him off; he did not serve one day in jail.  Lastly, this: Additionally, the president on Tuesday signed full pardons for imprisoned reality show couple Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were sentenced to lengthy prison terms in 2022 for a conspiracy to defraud banks out of more than $30 million, according to a White House official. – Well, we can imagine why Trump likes fraudsters, right? – Of course, this is a guy who “backs the blue,” who pardoned over 1,000 convicted criminals (well, he is one, too) who attacked cops.  Now he says he “will take a look at” pardoning the guys who planned to kidnap the Gov. of Michigan!  And, if rapper Diddy combs is convicted of sexual abuse, well, he will look into that, too!  (recall that Trump was also convicted of sexual assault).

………………………………………..

And there is another sign of corruption:  One of the top architects of Donald Trump’s immigration agenda previously received thousands of dollars from a private, prison company raking in millions from deportations.  A Republican governor of AZ tried this years ago, too.

But the White House says that there’s nothing wrong with this situation.

This just in (Wednesday):

US court blocks Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs

We’ll see where this goes, but good for now.  The issue I see is that Trump usually ignores the courts!  What then?  Update: The Supremes will temporarily let Trump do it.  We’ll see.

I mentioned before that foreign students are a good source of income for our colleges – here is a stat on that:  According to NAFSA: Association of International Educators, during the 2023–2024 academic year, 1.1 million international students at American colleges and universities contributed more than $43 billion to the U.S. economy.  And, one place where we have an enormous trade surplus with the rest of the world is in higher education.

Sunny and 70’s here lately.  Some morning haze, as usual (May Gray it is called, to be follow by June Gloom – but that is usually only in the mornings).

I am getting PT at home and progressing.  More on that in a couple of weeks. Went halfway down the stairs today, with supervision, a first. My average BP for the first 7.5 days at home is:  127.1/72.5

Musk drug use when campaigning with Trump:  Citing private messages obtained by the Times and interviews with Musk’s associates, the outlet reported that Musk took ketamine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, Ambien, Adderall, and other drugs, and traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills.

I thought that some years ago, a law/regulation was passed that forbade TV stations from cranking up the volume for commercials.  I must have been mistaken because I routinely have to turn it down or put on “mute.”

A quote about the old west:  Historian Roger McGrath said that the Wild West “was a far more civilized, more peaceful and safer place than American society today.”  — Well, there was more gun control in Tombstone back then, than any American city today!

Dad joke of the Day:  Why don’t eggs tell jokes?  Because they’d crack each other up.

Enough for today.  I will try to maintain my original Sunday afternoon posts, and we’ll see.

All take care,
