Update 08/17/2025

One thing that I forgot to mention last time is that you can also get a “Gulf of America” hat from the Trump family for a mere $50.  Get yours today. Wait, better get two, Donald might need the money.

Didja know Dept.:  Billboards Are Prohibited in Hawaii

Trying to think of anyplace else in the US that does this, and I think maybe the Blue Ridge Parkway in Va.?

………………………………….

On 8/11/2025:  DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (The Borowitz Report)—The mayor of Washington DC suggested on Monday that the best way for Donald J. Trump to empty the streets of the nation’s capital would be to throw himself another birthday parade. – If you don’t know Borowitz, he is a satirist/humor writer, and you can subscribe to his free emails, typically daily M-F, and for a fee, get more stuff.

From VoteVets:  Remember: Donald Trump claimed he had no authority to mobilize the National Guard to stop the assault on the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. – But today, Aug. 11, 2025, he has sent the Guard to take over D.C.  Ask any Republican and they’ll say, “Oh, that’s different!”

Need inspiration?  Some of Thomas Edison’s teachers said that he was too stupid to learn anything.

Huffpost:  Trump BLS Nominee Suggests Nixing Monthly Jobs Report

E.J. Antoni said the Bureau of Labor Statistics should suspend a monthly estimate that recently upset President Donald Trump.

– and he has not even been confirmed in the job yet!

Things I Think that I have Learned: (Perhaps part of an occasional series)

When Momma’s happy, everybody’s happy.

When Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.

Considering that being left-handed used to be considered a mark of the Devil, did they teach left-handed Catholics to cross themselves with their right hands?  And what if they did it left-handed anyway?  Does that turn a blessing into a curse?

………………………..

From CNN:  NASA plans to decommission satellite missions that gather information on planet-warming pollution and other climate vital signs as soon as October. The destruction of the satellites marks the latest step by the Trump administration to scale back climate science. – Well, he said it’s a Chinese hoax, didn’t he? What, you don’t believe that?

So, the Donald is now not only the head of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and has fired most of its board members (replaced with friends of his) he is choosing this year’s awards recipients and will host the event.  I wonder how many right-wingers will win awards?  Maybe this is appropriate, since he is just an act anyway.

My take:  Why Trump says cities are crime infested, etc., even when they are doing well, is because that “works” with his rural base.  “City-dwellers!  Why those damn liberals in those fancy colleges, damn them!  We’ll own the libs!”

I also think that Trump admires and tries to emulate mafia family “Dons” (loyalty oaths, do what I say no matter what) but more on that some time.

……………………………..

Per Huffpost:  Trump’s nominee to provide more Trump-friendly leadership at the Bureau of Labor Statistics was on the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021.  Of course he would be.  Probably listed that on his resume.

So, Trumpy will meet with Putin on Friday.  I remember when W Bush did, and said afterwards that he could “look into his eyes and see his soul” (!!) and that “he was a good man.”  — No, I am not kidding.

If you remember the Pogo comic strip (I miss it) you will remember this quote, perhaps apropos today, by Pogo:

“We have met the enemy and he is us.”

Useless Fact of the Day:  The earliest known potato chip recipe is found in William Kitchiner’s cookbook The Cook’s Oracle, published in 1817. Provided by FactRetriever.com

……………………….

From ABC on Thursday:  Social Security’s 90th anniversary marked by funding threats and privatization talk – they all seem to try, don’t they?

………………………

A win for the good guys:  Alex Jones’ Infowars Can Be Sold to Pay Sandy Hook Families, Judge Rules — A judge ruled that Jones can sell Infowars’ assets, including studio cameras and the brand name, to help pay the $1 billion he owes to the Sandy Hook families. – maybe Trumper will get the same judge to tell him to pay up on his debt to the woman he attacked.

White House border czar Tom Homan told reporters, “President Trump doesn’t have a limitation on his authority to make this country safe again. There’s no limitation on that.”

No limitation.  Got that?  It’s in the Constitution . . . no . . .  wait.

………………………..

And in that case of the guy who threw a sandwich: “The Trump Administration will always stand up for law enforcement officers and hold those accountable who seek to do them harm,” the White House said, conveniently overlooking the time Trump decided not to hold felons accountable for attacking law enforcement officers, and in fact, pardoned them ALL.

Does your grocery store have those automatic sprinklers in the produce section?  With sound effects?  It makes them look fresher, but this:

Ironically, misting actually shortens produce’s shelf life because water allows bacteria and mold to take hold. Misted veggies will likely not last as long in your fridge as those that weren’t misted in the produce aisle — which is another, perhaps sneakier, way to get you to buy produce more often.

Useless sports fact of the Day:  The first issue of Sports Illustrated—featuring Milwaukee Braves star Eddie Mathews at bat on the cover—was published in 1954.

………………………..

From InterestingFacts.com, about Elizabeth Taylor:  Taylor was the first actress to earn more than $1 million for a single movie, for 1963’s Cleopatra. When the movie was first planned, her $1 million salary was half of the original budget. As the film’s budget boomed to $31 million, Taylor’s paycheck did as well — to $7 million (around $54 million in 2022).  She was only 10 when she was in Lassie Come Home, and 12 in National Velvet. Didja know that she had double eyelashes?

Trump got nothing out of the Alaska meeting.  But, as usual, he says/tweets that it was a great success.  I don’t think Putin will give up any territory it holds in Ukraine, now or before (Crimea).  I would have liked it if we had a president who threatened to give Ukraine many more weapons and would support them for membership in NATO.

Mom:  Billy, for the last time — go clean your room!

Billy:  So, after this I never have to do it again?

All from me.

All take care,
