From MSNBC: House Republicans have launched an investigation into Wikipedia, a long-standing target of conservative criticism.
For several months, Elon Musk and other conservatives have waged a campaign to portray the online encyclopedia as an oppressive tool of leftist manipulation.
Now a House committee is investigating allegations of “anti-Israel bias” at Wikipedia.
Of course, we have to defend everything Israel does, right? Led by Trump, who said in public one time that he wanted only Jews to handle his money. And what about Freedom of Speech? Wait . . . not now, that’s different!

Are you worried yet? “President Trump is drawing criticism for his shocking comments at a Cabinet meeting this week where he claimed he has the “right to do what he wants to” in regards to tackling crime.” – MSNBC
I am reminded of when he was prez the first time and right before a vacation (I think Christmas), a female reporter innocently asked him what he was going to do during the break.
He looked at her with a scowl and blurted, “I’ll do whatever I want!” and yes, that is how he was raised.

Q. How often does the Old Faithful geyser erupt? Answer below:

I cannot keep up with the transfers in college sports, especially football. I watched part of a game today and it seemed like every player who did something good and got talked about, the announcers said “was a transfer from . . . ABCU.” . . .

This is still my biggest fear:
| President Donald Trump is seeking even more power from the Supreme Court. |
How? His attempt to fire a Federal Reserve governor and other cases are likely to reach the nation’s top court — and could expand Trump’s authority as president. To add on Tuesday: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit determined in a 7-4 ruling that only Congress has the authority to apply sweeping levies. Trump called the decision “Highly Partisan” and has said that he will appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.

From the history books: On March 4, 1933, Frances Perkins became the secretary of labor under President Franklin D. Roosevelt — and the first woman to hold any position in a presidential Cabinet.

Seen this? From AP: A late Tennessee sheriff who inspired a Hollywood movie about a law enforcement officer who took on organized crime killed his wife in 1967 and led people to believe she was killed by his enemies, authorities said Friday.
If you saw the movie Walking Tall, you will remember him. He was considered a hero. His wife’s killing was never solved, and a cold case group re-looked at it. His death is also under suspicion — instead of a hit job, it could be drunken driving without a seat belt.

With the recent firing of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s drowning prevention team, Americans are losing a key source of information that helps save lives. – It is the leading cause of death for kids 1-4 years old.

For history buffs: On September 6, 1522, Ferdinand Magellan’s ship, the Victoria, completed the first circumnavigation of the globe. Magellan gets credit, but he did not finish the trip. He died in 1521 and his next in command, Juan Sebastian Elcano, completed it.
Side note: He did “discover” the Magellan Straits, a place I have navigated a large ship through (not a big deal, but a gorgeous passage).
Some other time I will (again) remark as to why we say someone (gee, a white European?) “discovered” someplace where millions/thousands of people already lived.

Aug 30 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he will issue an executive order to require voter identification from every voter. – and, dear voter, this is NOT legal.

First Rush Limbaugh, and now this: President Donald Trump on Monday announced he will award his former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who was disbarred over his push to overturn the 2020 election, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. He is still under investigation for vote tampering in Georgia. – Gosh! Right up there with Mother Teresa! And yes, she got one too.

More guns: Federal prosecutors in D.C. were instructed not to seek felony charges against people carrying rifles or shotguns in the city, the U.S. attorney’s office confirmed to NBC News. It marks a dramatic shift from previous policy. – From MSNBC
In related gun items, finally, something called the York Dispatch, understands the second amendment: “The conservative Supreme Court has put more guns in more hands, sending a clear message that Americans have a constitutional right to arm themselves, even if they have no interest in being part of “a well-regulated Militia … necessary to the security of a free State,” as the Second Amendment stipulates.” – exactly. And, in the same article: “Analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a study by the RAND Corp. show that states with the most guns and the most liberal gun laws have the most gun deaths.” — go figure. But “guns don’t kill,” as the NRA says, right? And the more folks walking around with guns makes us all safer, right?

Hard to believe, but: During the Depression, spinach sales increased by 33 percent due to Popeye’s popularity. At one point, it was the third most popular food among children, following ice cream and turkey. – From exploredplanet.com
And didja know that Popeye was inspired by a real person? True. And yeah, in real life he got into a lot of fights, working as a bouncer in a bar.

The Trumpers have put a portrait of Robert E. Lee back up at West Point – pictured in his confederate uniform! He was a WP grad, but then what? He betrayed his oath and country. I guess there are some votes down South to be picked up doing this. And I wonder what the black cadets there now think about when they see it . . .

This speaks for itself: Governor Ron DeSantis and state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo have announced that Florida will work to phase out all childhood vaccine mandates in the state. — So, should we also stop schools from doing, say, vision screening? Hearing tests?
A reminder: Childhood vaccines save millions of lives around the world each year, which is why schools around the country, places where infectious diseases can spread in close quarters, require them. Without vaccine prevention, diseases like polio — which can cause respiratory issues, muscle weakness and even death — could spread.

Almost time for my daily glass of red wine. I like that, especially with dinner. But it is not my fault, I have that song in my head . . . you know, the one Liza Minnelli sang . . . dunno its name but part of it went like this:
“What good is sitting alone in your room,
Come hear the music play . . .
Life is a Cabernet, my friends,
Come get your Cabernet . . . “
All from me,
All take care,
