Update 10/19/2025

Trump now says that the Watergate scandal was “an illegal hoax.”  Really.  He said that.  Another hoax, eh?  Right up there with climate change and the Sandy Hook school shootings.

Something I have long wondered:  What ever happened to Roebuck?

What Else is New Dept.:  In a speech today, Trump called the Prime Minister of Canada the President of Canada, which it does not have.  But he is a “very stable genius” don’t forget.

On the way to the speech, Trump told the press that one could easily walk from Qatar to Iran . . . which is amazing, as they are on different sides of the Persian Gulf.   Well, maybe they didn’t have geography classes in Trumpy’s private high school.

Why does Trump want a Nobel prize so much?  Hint:  Obama has one.

When we went through the security line at our concert recently, I set the machine off.  I told the woman I had a titanium left hip.  She “wanded” it, if that is a word, (if not, let’s make it one) and it went off again, and I got through.  I have long known that my right hip was also arthritic and might someday need the same procedure.  It is starting to hurt here and there the same way – feels like a groin pull . . .  but this time I will not waste 6 months in PT to little gain.

For baseball fans:  I was remembering that K and I once witnessed, in person, an 8-2-6 triple play.  I can recall it:  Mark McGuire hit a fly ball to center; Steve Finley caught it (out 1) and threw home.  He had a great arm.  Play at the plate to catcher Damien Miller, out! (out 2).  Meanwhile, the runner on second tried to advance to third.  Catcher threw to shortstop Tony Womack, covering third and out! (out 3).  Only time I ever saw such a play.

Your Republican Government at Work:  The nation’s largest solar project, known as Esmeralda 7, was set to generate enough energy to power 2 million homes. The Trump administration quietly canceled it, sparking confusion and concern among Republicans and Democrats.

We have voted on California Prop 50, about redistricting.  We have all mail in voting here (unless you opt out, I think).    I am not in favor of doing this mid-decade, but the R’s made it necessary.  Must.  Fight.  Corruption.

Over the weekend, the Trump administration fired almost all employees in the Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.  The GOP once supported special education programs.  Republican presidents signed the bills that codified the right to a Free Appropriate Public Education for millions of Americans. Now, the White House’s cuts risk the freedom and liberty for people with disabilities that took the better part of 50 years to build.  – Gotta save enough for the billionaires, right?  Damn those kids!

Dad Joke for Today:

Q: If April showers bring May flowers, then what do May flowers bring?   A: Pilgrims.

Dateline Thursday, CNN:  John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, has been indicted. – Well, he did eventually turn against Trumpy, so . . . something about classified information he had . . . but ignore the dozens of boxes of classified information Trump had in a bathroom and storeroom at Mar-a-Lago!  Even though Trump was a private citizen then, doncha know that’s different!  No?  What is wrong with you, are you a Hamas terrorist, a criminal supporter?  Child kidnapper?  Communist?

Hint from my dental hygienist:  Best time to whiten your teeth is right after a cleaning.

The Indiana U. football coach just got an extension.  He got $93M For 8 years.  A cool $11.6 M per year.  The team plays 12 games a year (that count).  So, he gets about $1M per game!  I had the wrong profession all my life!  Well, I couldn’t coach football, but I did pretty good as a basketball coach (to JV HS level).  I would have tried for the varsity job, except that coach was happy there, was winning championships, and was younger than me.

I have friend who I went to college with who has had an amazing life.  He was an officer in the merchant marine, a navy fighter pilot, a doctor, cardiologist and thoracic surgeon.  He rides horses with jumps competitively.  He just came back from driving a jeep from Edinburgh to Ukraine for Jeeps for Peace (there they convert them to ambulances).  He is 81 years old.

Quote from RFK Jr. today: “Our parents aren’t having children.” – If only that were true in his case.

Just learned that Old Dominion Voting systems has been bought out by a former right-wing operative.  Not good.  Says they will emphasize paper ballots.  Remember what Stalin said: “Those who cast the ballots decide nothing; those who count the ballots decide everything.”

……………………..

Remember kids:  The U.S. was founded by protestors.  Your right to free speech, assembly and to “address your government for redress of grievances” is in our Constitution!  But it still helps to have bail money if you go to a protest now. . .

……………………

Trump’s spokesman (well, other than Pam Bondi) Leavitt: “The Democrat Party’s main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals.”

…………………….

In the I Can’t Even Comment Dept.:  Trump has commuted the sentence of George Santos.  The former congressman was in prison for a 7-year sentence.  He has served 84 days.  Basically, in for fraud leading to financial gain.  Gee.

Today’s Fact:  The Sun makes a sound but we can’t hear it. Provided by BBCscience.com – How do they know?  I guess devices can “hear” it?

“Good on ya,” as the Aussies say, to those who marched on No Kings Day.

Bernie had this to say: “This is about a handful of the wealthiest people on Earth who in their insatiable greed have hijacked our economy and our political system in order to enrich themselves at the expense of working families throughout this country.  Yeah, I am talking about Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and the other multibillionaires who were sitting right behind Trump when he was inaugurated. Remember that? The very same billionaires who funded his campaign, who have bestowed gifts upon him and who have seen huge increases in their wealth and power since Trump took office.”

I sometimes think that things will not get better until Republicans realize that Trump has to go.

Robert Reich routinely sends out notes that “we will overcome,” to use an old expression.

I also think that I was surprised in 2016 how many racists there still were in the U.S.  I’d like to say that all Trump supporters are not racists, but all racists are Trump supporters, although that is not empirically true . . .

If one goes back to the founding of our country and government, it is easy to see that the wealthy have been mostly in control the whole time, and imho it was designed that way!  Some time ago I posited my article on the math of the Founding Fathers, showing how little “power to the people” there was (hint:  less than 5%).  Perhaps I will post again sometimes.  And although I won’t leave this blog open to discussion, you can send me an email through my author’s website, if you look around it a bit.

Going over my goal a bit, so will stop here.
