Why on Earth Dept.: Trump administration moves to dismantle prominent US weather and climate research center — Meteorologists, climate scientists and lawmakers have criticized the action. Wait, I know – did they say global warming is real? Heresy!

The Trump administration is pausing leases for five offshore wind projects due to national security concerns identified by the Department of Defense, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced on Monday. – What, the windmills can attack us?

Crypto money might not be Trump’s main business soon? This: The Truth Social parent company, of which the president is the majority shareholder, is hedging a bet on fusion power in a merger with Google-backed TAE Technologies. Gee, will this need any government approval? Hmmmmmmmmm?

Just when you thought Trump had named about everything for himself, this from no-service “Cadet Bone Spurs”? ‘Trump class.’ Trump names new type of battleship after himself.

Oklahoma College Instructor Fired After Giving Failing Grade to Bible-based Essay On Gender
Mel Curth said the student’s paper did “not answer the questions for the assignment,” contradicted itself, relied on “personal ideology” over evidence and “is at times offensive.”
–What I read about this is that the student ignored the assignment, ranted on about her religious beliefs, and claims that she had the right to do that . . . I admire the teacher for the failing grade.

Dateline Dec. 23: Over dissent from Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch, the Supreme Court declined to let the Trump administration immediately deploy the National Guard in Chicago, in the latest high court test of Donald Trump’s sweeping claims of authority in his second term. – Well, this is good! Although Thomas and Alito, as always, oppose this.

The Trump administration has moved to eliminate federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. – But wait – he cares so much his name can be on that performing arts center.

Dateline Dec. 24: Lots of rain here, and expected to be heavy at times. More Christmas Day. Staying in except we have a dinner res today at Gemmel’s. After 25 years as a family restaurant (Mr. Gemmel is the chef) they are closing shop for good on New Year’s Eve, so we will be one of their last customers. I don’t think their business is in trouble, I think they want to retire!

If you still think that Charlie Kirk’s group was some kind of patriotic, benign group:
In October, a Rutgers professor named Mark Bray moved to Spain after receiving death threats at his home prompted by a petition, from the school’s chapter of the conservative group Turning Point USA, to have him fired. – in The New Yorker

From my memory, Trump is the first modern president to do this:
Trump chose a scowl for his official portrait. – The angry face. He even taught Melania to do it during his first campaign, if she knew her picture was being taken. Unfortunately, it seems to have worked with a lot of folks.

Had a great Christmas. Kids and grandkid left today. Rainy here. But, amazingly, on Christmas Day, it was sunny! We got out for brunch and even went to the harbor and walked around. Lots of people out walking, many said hello or even “Merry Christmas.” Gives one hope.

We are now a one-car family. My car left with the kids today. It’s a great car with very low mileage. We don’t have our new one yet, not in a big hurry. Pretty sure it will be a hybrid, perhaps a Lexus. Eight years since we have gone car shopping! It was time. Don’t really need two hardly ever, and we have good Uber here. And we won’t be saying, “What car shall we take?” anymore.

For Christmas, our dear leader bombed another country we were not at war with, and called Democrats “scum.” What a guy! Speaking of Nigeria, this headline: Fear and confusion in Nigerian village hit in US strike, as locals say no history of ISIS in area

Dateline 12/26. Watching parts of a college bowl game on my computer. It is Minnesota vs. New Mexico. I don’t care who wins, but the game is at Chase Field in Phx, where the Dbax play. I have been to many baseball games and a few football games there some years ago. Not designed for football, so you have to choose seats carefully. Also, the score is 7-6 at the start of the 4th quarter, so a close game. The Minnesota helmets have two logos – a large “M” on one side, and drawing of a gopher on the other. Every time they show a close up of the “Gopher” side, I can think of one thing – Chuck E. Cheese! See, it looks like him! But I might root for the Gophers anyway, as they have a huge guy, a lineman, whose name is “Beers.” Seems fitting.

From the New York Times: A Wealth Tax Floated in California Has Billionaires Thinking of Leaving – Well, they would still have billions, but, as difficult as it may be to believe, most really wealthy people don’t want to pay anything at all! Recall what Leona Helmsley said: “Only the little people pay taxes.” She was guilty of tax evasion.

Perhaps overlooked in Trump’s pardon spree is that when he does that, if the convict owes people restitution, that is forgiven too! Victims don’t get paid! How perfectly Trumpian is that? He has had a lifetime of cheating people he owes money to. Spends it on lawyers instead.

New Year’s approaches and I hope all have a good one. I am looking forward to the mid-term elections, although if the Trumpers win, I would be very fearful for the next two years. I wonder how long it would take to undo all his mostly illegal actions anyway.

Dateline Sunday: Warmer and sunnier today. Maybe BBQ supper.
