From MSNow: “Trump’s administration has shown no signs of discontinuing its onslaught against our civil rights in 2026. It’s possible that the most frightening part isn’t the harm that has already been done but rather the harm he’s yet to cause.”

Per Robert Reich: “Trump and his own family have also reaped big rewards by changing the economy’s rules in their favor. By the end of 2025, they had cleared at least $1.2 billion through their crypto investments — whose value has ballooned in large part because of Trump’s decisions to deregulate crypto and encourage its use.”

From CNN: Trump hails productive meeting with Israeli prime minister. Says he is not concerned about country’s actions. Trump will receive Israel Prize for Peace award, Netanyahu announces. First time honor will be awarded to foreign citizen. – Well, there was also that one from the futbol (soccer) association, created for him! The Nobel must be next!

Dateline Dec. 28: President Donald Trump praised Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s offers to the country he launched a war against in 2022. Well, you do recall that Trump welcomed Putin to an American Air Force Base with a red carpet, don’t you?

So, which is better for a business – repeat customers, or referral customers?
I want to say repeat, but then your customer base expands when you get a referral . . .

This is a crime to me: The federal minimum wage was last raised on July 24, 2009, to its current rate of $7.25 per hour, the final step of a three-part increase from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This marks the longest period without a federal increase in U.S. history, with many states and cities setting their own higher rates. – I would love to see Congressmen try to live off of that wage and nothing else.

Someone please tell Trumpy that there is no such thing as “clean coal,” because: News Item: The Trump administration just ordered another retiring coal plant to stay open. It could cost ratepayers millions to restart it.

Dateline 12/31: we usually do not go out on NYE but are going to a very early dinner out today. Relatively new place, fancy and very near us, about ½ a mile. We have been there only once before and liked it. Our older, go-to fancy place, Gemmel’s, is closing tonight, for good, chef and wife retiring.

No one wants to hear a speech from Trump about how the economy is all former President Joe Biden’s fault. Nor does anyone want Trump gaslighting them about the state of their personal finances.

Can you eat snow to stay hydrated? This from Mental Floss:
Yes, snow is just frozen water—but the water content of snow is often quite low, and what’s more, the effort and heat your body uses to melt the snow and turn it into drinkable water burns off more energy than the snow itself contains. Ultimately, consuming snow can, in fact, lead to dehydration.

Trump says today that we are “locked and loaded” to protect protestors in Iran. Avoiding the question of our interfering in the internal affairs of another country, recall that he asked the military, in the past, if they could shoot protesters here. When he was told, “No,” he asked if they could just shoot them in the legs . . .

Dateline 1/02/2026: More rain today and more predicted for several more days. We have not had any flooding here, like you might have seen on the news in other places in Ca., mostly in some mountain towns and in burn areas. We seem to miss the worst of any weather, like we are some kind of “zone.” Update 01/03/2026, mostly rainy today, although we got a break and made a Staples run without rain. 01/04: More rain again – where is sunny SoCal?

From CNN, about our invasion of Venezuela: On November 2, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told Vanity Fair that land strikes in Venezuela would require the approval of Congress. She said that if Trump “were to authorize some activity on land, then it’s war, then (we’d need) Congress.”
Days later, Trump administration officials privately told members of Congress much the same thing – that they lacked the legal justification to support attacks against any land targets in Venezuela.
Just two months later, though, the Trump administration has done what it previously indicated it couldn’t.
It launched what Trump called a “large scale strike against Venezuela” and captured its president, Nicolás Maduro, to face charges. And it launched this regime change effort without the approval of Congress. – But recall, dear readers, that country has the world’s largest known oil reserves . . .
Trump says that “We will run Venezuela.” Wait, like Russia wants to run Ukraine?
Is it about fighting the drug use? This: It should also be noted that the Trump administration cut funding last year to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, including millions in overdose prevention funds.
