Update 03/22/2026

St. Patrick was not Irish — he was born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century. While he is the patron saint of Ireland, he was originally a Roman-British citizen who was kidnapped at age 16 and brought to Ireland as a slave, later returning as a Christian missionary.

St. Patrick’s Day is also this:  Evacuation Day – It commemorates March 17, 1776, when British troops withdrew from Boston after months of siege by colonial forces. The breakthrough came when Gen. George Washington fortified Dorchester Heights with artillery hauled from Fort Ticonderoga by Col. Henry Knox, giving the Continental Army a strategic advantage over the harbor and forcing the British evacuation. – ABC News

Trump on Cuba: ‘I can do anything I want with it’

This reminds me of his answer once, upon leaving he White House for Florida and a reporter asked him what he was going to do on vacation.  He looked at her with a scowl and hollered, “I’ll do anything I want!’

Comments I saw online about a single payer Medicare for all type health care:

Critics often warn that single-payer systems lead to “rationed care.” But Americans already experience one of the harshest forms of medical rationing in the developed world: rationing based on the ability to pay.

Most other large countries have better health care than we do – why don’t we learn from them? — Me

I like this, from The Atlantic:

Donald Trump does not think strategically. Nor does he think historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. He does not think about how his behavior in one place will change the behavior of other people in other places.

He does not consider the wider implications of his decisions. He does not take responsibility when these decisions go wrong. Instead, he acts on whim and impulse, and when he changes his mind—when he feels new whims and new impulses—he simply lies about whatever he said or did before.

Me: They forgot to mention his low IQ.

The World to Trump:  You broke it, you fix it.

Democrats need to throw Fetterman out of their party – he isn’t much of a part of it anyway.

More notes that the Trump family is cashing in on his presidency, again:

Former President Barack Obama’s ethics czar criticized Donald Trump’s son-in-law on “The Weeknight” on Monday after new reporting revealed that Jared Kushner, now one of the president’s top negotiators in the Middle East, is attempting to raise billions for his private equity firm from governments in the region. – MSNOW

This is the design of the new Trump coin. Gold, of course, and perhaps bigger than any other. Note the agressive stance, angry face and the fists. Well, he does not even know how to make a proper fist . .

From Huffpost:  Tulsi Gabbard Won’t Say If Iran Posed Imminent Threat to U.S.

“It is not the intelligence community’s responsibility to determine what is and is not an imminent threat,” the director of national intelligence said (Tulsi Gabbard). – Not their . . . is she kidding?  Who, then?  Steve Bannon?

And: “The only person who can determine what is and is not an imminent threat is the president,” Gabbard told lawmakers at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on worldwide threats. – I can’t take it.

And, she said this:  Iran’s regime “appears to be intact but largely degraded.”  Huh?  Wait, is that the same as Trump saying we had “obliterated” their nuclear program, but had to attack it again?  He must have learned this from Bush’s “alternative facts.”

Useless word I just learned:  In Australia, they call mosquitos “mozzies.”  Now you know.

…………………….

I think Trump somehow makes money off of this, but it could just be his stupidity:

The president has granted pardons or commutations to a long list of corrupt politicians and convicted fraudsters. Additionally, he’s granted clemency to a Chinese crypto billionaire, a Honduran drug lord (convicted here of smuggling 400 tons of cocaine into our country) and at least 169 people convicted of assaulting police in the Jan. 6 Capital riot.

……………………

No brains and no class:  WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump compared the initial strikes on Iran — while seated next to Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in the Oval Office — to the Japanese attack on the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor, which triggered America’s entry into World War II.

Remember kids – health care is for the rich, the emergency room is for you:

Millions of Americans have lost health insurance after lawmakers let enhanced federal subsidies for Affordable Care Act plans expire following last year’s government shutdown battle, a study released Thursday found.

About 1 in 10 Americans who were enrolled in an ACA plan last year now have no health coverage. – Huffpost

Odd thing I just learned:  Some birds can sleep while they are flying!

Heroes no more?  First, Cesar Chavez; now Bob Barker, you know, The Price is Right?  He apparently was abusive to the models on his show, including one who had been on the show for 20 years.  She would not testify for him in a suit brought by another girl, so he had her fired for “gaining weight.”

Friday:  Washington — Pentagon officials have made detailed preparations for deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran, multiple sources briefed on the discussions told CBS News.  – A potential reason and outcome — A U.S. military effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force would likely require U.S. ground troops in a dangerous, costly operation that could drag on for years, five military and shipping experts told MS NOW. – Well, remember in the early days of our involvement in Vietnam we sent “advisors” only . . .

……………………….

I think I have mentioned this before but . . . I think the reason Trump killed that treaty we and others had with Iran about their nuclear potential is because Obama did it.  He hates him and wants to get rid of everything he ever did, even if it was good for the country.

If you can remember who these three figures are, congratulations! It means you have a good memory, because they go back to the 1950’s.

From The Guardian:  Democrats reacted with outrage to their party colleague John Fetterman’s decision to advance the nomination of Republican US senator Markwayne Mullin as homeland security secretary. – see what I mean about Fetterman?

My observation: Why do so many old guys grow untrimmed, long, white beards?  And/or let their white hair get long and scraggly?  I am thinking of pictures I saw of David Letterman and Henry Winkler, and others I have seen at hotels.  I had or have (dunno if alive) a college classmate who, sadly, ended up untrimmed and in a cardboard box on a sidewalk in L.A.  I vow never to do that — have long white hair/beard or live in a cardboard box.
