Update 04/05/2026

Q:  What are the three most popular edible crops, in order?

Answer below.

………………………

A real chocolate lover?  KitKat, owned by Swiss food giant Nestle, told AFP on Saturday that “a truck transporting 413,793 units of its new chocolate range has been stolen during transit in Europe.”  — This was between Italy and Poland.

……………………

From history:  During WWII, a Polish soldier, Witold Pilecki, volunteered to be imprisoned in Auschwitz to gather information. He gathered information, successfully escaped, and told the world. Provided by FactRetriever.com – never heard of this guy.  Maybe goggle him?

My favorite No Kings Sign:

Recently:  Trump welcomed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the Oval Office, inexplicably praised his human rights record, suggested that murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi had it coming . . . all the while, of course, his son-in-law is collecting money from the Saudis for his investment company.

…………………

Dow way up today (Tuesday).  I still suspect Trump is manipulating the market, up and down, for profit.

………………………

In a 35-page opinion, Judge Leon — an appointee of Republican President George W. Bush — wrote that Trump likely did not have the authority to make changes to the White House that could endure for generations, without consulting Congress.

This marks, by my calculation, the eighty-ninth time that a federal judge has instructed Trump that he cannot simply do whatever he wants; his actions must be authorized by Congress. – From Robert Reich

Republicans still can’t stand to see anyone get any help from the government:

WASHINGTON — Republicans might make new cuts to health care and food programs to pay for President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, as the party’s lawmakers search for ways to offset potentially $200 billion in war costs in an upcoming budget bill.  — Damn those poor kids!  And now they want a record $1.5T for the military next fiscal year.

I can describe Trump in three words:

Con-artist, grifter, fraud.

I can also describe him in three words that aren’t suitable for publication, but I won’t.

Well, should be “cacti,” but ok.

………………..

I believe, with many others, that Trump set up a crypto business to allow people, businesses and governments (Saudi?) to channel money to him, with some degree of implied legality.

……………..

My friends, as I write this on 03/31, I fear Trump will soon invade some part of Iran with troops – and soon.  Maybe marines, maybe air-borne, maybe both.  My bet is to take Kharg Island.  He has said, in public, years before he even ran for pres., that he would want to seize that island, where much of Iran’s oil flows.  Side bet is an attempt to seize Iran’s uranium stockpile.  He is obsessed about oil, to the point where he is using a billion dollars of our money to pay foreign wind power companies to stop work on that and spend it on oil companies.  Really.

……………….

How come?  Trump has blockaded oil from reaching Cuba (where does he get the authority to do that?) but just now let a Russian tanker through?  Favor to Vladimir?

Shoes have been around for centuries, but it wasn’t until about 1860 that they were made in “left” and “right” shoes.

……………….

From ABCNews:  A federal judge in Philadelphia on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to collect information about the University of Pennsylvania’s Jewish employees amid the campus discrimination probe.  The decision comes despite the objection of student and faculty groups who compared it to the tactics of Nazi Germany.

–So, do employers now collect info on one’s religion when hiring?  How do they know?  You even been asked that?  Maybe they should have to wear a star?

………………….

From CBS:  Trump says he might withdraw the U.S. from NATO, even though the law says he can’t without Congress’ approval – Oh, what does he care about laws or courts even?

…………………….

Quote of the week?:  “Chris, I’m not a child psychologist so I can’t understand the mind of Donald Trump,” the congressman replied. – On MSNOW

…………………..

Dateline Thursday:  I would normally cheer for Pam Bondi’s firing, but in Trump’s case, it might well be that she wasn’t rabid enough for him, and/or let too many of the Epstein files out.  Her replacement will likely be worse.

Trump says we are going to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age.  Where have I heard that before?  Vietnam.  I remember being shocked when I learned that we had dropped more tons of bombs on that country than we did on Germany in all of WWII.  How did that work out?

…………………

I thought this was an April’s Fool joke, but no:  The presidential faith adviser (Paula White, a spiritual adviser to President Donald Trump) faced fierce criticism after comparing the president to Jesus Christ during an event at the White House.

This is what, in part, she said:  White: “You were betrayed and arrested and falsely accused. It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Savior showed us. You will be victorious in all you put your hand to because God is using you.”

………………..

This:  WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ousted the Army’s top uniformed officer and two other generals, the Pentagon said Thursday without giving a reason for the departures while the United States is waging a war against Iran. – Gee, did they say anything critical of Cadet Bone Spur’s war?

………………………..

So, when Tiger was pulled over for flipping his car, he said he “was talking to the president.”  Was this before or after he said, “Do you know who I am?”  And people say justice in America isn’t fair . . .

…………………..

It’s not just me who thinks Trump’s crypto biz is a scam to sell influence:

The Trump administration notably also allowed the sale of valuable AI computer chips to the United Arab Emirates around the same time that the Gulf nation’s ruling family deposited $2 billion into a cryptocurrency company owned by the Trump family, per The New York Times.

Are tax laws written for the wealthy?

Note:  You can gift up to $13.99 million over your lifetime without paying a gift tax on it (as of 2025).  Gee, maybe the average person will be able to gift that much . . . eh?

………………….

Also for the wealthy:  I just read about rich people buying expensive cars in Ca. and registering them in Montana, which does not tax them.  State of Cal on the case, some have been arrested.  They avoid tens of thousands and the total is estimated in the millions.

……………………

One more note about a wealthy person:  Larry Ellison’s layoffs of 30,000 Oracle workers on the same day he became $9 billion richer. What planet is he on? – From Robert Reich

……………….

From Architectural Design:  Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater Completes a 3-Year, $7 Million Restoration

I have said before that the first thing a structure needs to be is stable.  FLW’s most famous work was not.  To, me, Fallingwater (Fallingdown?) is an appropriate name, for all the wrong reasons – and a failure.
