Update 04/12/2026

From MSNOW:  Indeed, one of the great ironies of Trump’s public posture is that every time he tries to convey strength and command, he ends up doing the opposite. Instead of showing leadership, he comes across as a toddler throwing a tantrum after failing to get his way. – I agree. This was posted after his Easter Day unhinged rant.

Blast from the Past:

Bill Clinton, (D),  was the last U.S. president to oversee a balanced federal budget, achieving surpluses for four consecutive fiscal years from 1998 to 2001. Working with a Republican-led Congress, his administration reached a bipartisan deal in 1997 that aimed to eliminate the deficit, resulting in the first surplus since 1969.

From Steve Benen (who writes Rachel Maddow’s blog, which to me, then should be his . . .):  But in the second term, those voices have been purged. The result is a dynamic that White House officials seem to understand all too well: Tell Trump how right his assumptions are and receive praise and job security, or tell him the truth and face potential unemployment. – This in reference to his aides not telling him the truth about the Iran War (or Trump’s War, as I call it) or the truth about much of anything else.

……………………

From The Guardian:  Trump claims, without proof, Iranians welcome US strikes on infrastructure

President dismisses concerns that bombing civilian targets would punish ordinary people and could be war crimes – yes, oh, Please President Trump, drop more bombs on us, especially our bridges and power plants – that’ll teach our mean leaders!

Is sewing becoming a lost art and skill?  Nordstrom is North America’s largest employer of tailors and alteration specialists.  They even have a training program because tailors are hard to find.  I think the sewers should start demanding more moola!

I don’t think that in my lifetime I have ever heard of a sitting president going in person to the Supreme Court for a hearing; in Trump’s case, of course, was to try and intimidate them to vote his way on birthright citizenship.  I get it from his POV – Alito and Thomas are sure locks on any right-wing scheme, and he appointed three others.  In his juvenile mind, he would think that he “controls” 5 of the 9 justices, and should win every time!

…………………

From the Washington Post (which apparently is not totally pro-Trump yet):  After 15 whole minutes of discussion, the Endangered Species Committee (100% Trump appointees) decided that oil & gas companies in the Gulf of Mexico don’t need to exert any caution anymore to protect endangered whales, turtles, or other wildlife. www.washingtonpost.com/

Odd facts about water:

Earth’s water adds up to 332.5 million cubic miles (or 326 million trillion gallons). This includes liquid water, ice, groundwater, water in the atmosphere, and the water that’s in our bodies.

The vast majority of the Earth’s water — more than 96% — is in oceans, with ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow at a very distant second (1.74%) and groundwater a close third (1.69%).

………………

Another useless fact:  More babies were born in 1946 than in any other year in American history up until that time: 3.4 million.

The rantings of a rational man?  Trump Threatens to Destroy an Entire Nation

The president’s position is that if he wants to wipe out a “whole civilization,” then that is his decision to make. – White House

You know Trump’s angry look, like in his official portrait. Here is his happy look:

What did the cucumber say to the pickle?

You mean a great dill to me.

I try not to promote other websites or companies, but this one I will:

Humor Times is a publication I have gotten for years.  It is left-leaning political cartoons and articles, in a newspaper format.  To help them out, and maybe me a bit, I took out an ad with them.  It is online now on their website – www.humortimes.com – you’ll see an ad for “Kevin Zahn, author” on the first page — for six months, and will appear in their paper editions for the same length of time. If you try it, you might like to subscribe.

Ever remember any other president saying this?:

President Donald Trump has told people around him that he will “pardon everyone who has come within 200 feet of the Oval Office” before his term is up, according to The Wall Street Journal. – He forgot to add, “Especially those who buy my crypto!”

Weird history Dept.:  On January 12 and 13, 600,000 gallons of molasses were pumped into a tank, (in Boston) filling it to capacity. This, coupled with temperature fluctuations that affected both the molasses and the vat itself, put an added strain on the tank. Two days later, the container burst from the pressure, sending a 40-foot-high wave of molasses gushing through the streets at a speed of up to 35 miles per hour. The destructive force of gooey liquid destroyed buildings and claimed 21 lives, requiring 87,000 worker hours to clean up in the event’s aftermath. For years after, residents claimed the area reeked of molasses on warmer days. – historyfacts.com

This, from a Harvard professor:  In 1950, the average GPA at Harvard College was 2.55, between a B− and a C+. But that norm has given way to one in which top marks are the norm, and any deviation from the top grade needs to be justified by professors pointing to some serious deficiency in students’ work. Today, the average GPA at Harvard is 3.8, between an A and an A−.  Grade inflation?  Naahhhhh, couldn’t be!

Considering another educational discussion these days, that is, the use of AI, or computers to do your work for you, I recall a saying one of my teachers in school had: “Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it.”  If that is true, should we punish students who find “answers” more quickly than others?  If they “learn” something, do we really care how?  One of my (yes, I was a teacher) thoughts was in whether a student learned how to apply what he/she learned.  Say you just learned how to tie a bowline knot.  Do you know when to use it?

Per MSNOW:  The president, his eldest sons, Don Jr. and Eric, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are enmeshed in a sprawling set of business deals in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar. Those deals often involve members of the royal families of those states or the entities they control.  – This we know, but their point was that Fox News does not discuss it at all, as compared to Hunter Biden’s business deals (mentioning Biden’s son at least 13,440 times over a period of less than 16 months of Biden’s presidency). Ah, hypocrisy!

………………….

If there is much truth to the accusations against Eric Swallwell, he is done.  It reminds me of John Edwards, remember him? I liked him and thought he might be a good pres.  Same deal.

Dunno who I will vote for California Gov, then.  I like Katie Porter, but she has apparently been a real jerk to her staff.  I like Tom Steyer’s ads, but he is another billionaire with no political experience . . . hmmmmm . . . Maybe I need to take a closer look at the others.  Dems problem here (Ca.) is that the top two in the primary run in the fall. So, two R’s and 10 Dems are running.  You see the issue, if the Dems split their votes enough, both Rs could get in!

……………….

Last minute Sunday Good News:  Victor Orban in Hungary is OUT!  Trump heavily supported him, more good news!  Also, my team won today!  Ok, that you don’t care about . . . heh, heh.
