You are right to still be worried about the fall election:
From MSNOW: Republican members of the Senate Armed Services Committee blocked a Democratic effort Thursday to strengthen existing bans on federal troops entering polling stations or seizing ballots or voting machines, two senators told MS NOW. Democrats called the Republicans’ opposition to the measure “deeply alarming” and predicted that President Donald Trump would deploy federal troops in an effort to interfere in this November’s midterm elections. – Why is it always Republicans who try to prevent people from voting? You know why.

Madness: The U.S. Postal Service has proposed a new rule that would allow it to refuse to deliver mail ballots in states that don’t turn over voter rolls to the federal government.

Trump famously said that paying not paying federal income taxes “makes me smart.” Musk paid zero taxes in 2018. Still think our tax code is “fair?”

Washington CBS — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that he and his wife are under investigation by the Justice Department.
“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets,” Newsom said. “He’s coming after me because I’m considering running for president, because he hates that I consistently called him out over and over again for his lies and deceit. Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt president in American history.”

So, the cage fight is over. Now: According to documents filed in response to a lawsuit that attempted to halt the fight, the Trump administration says that it has already spent a jaw-dropping $60 million pulling together the presidential fight night.
Your money.

From MSNOW: Trump called the Reflecting Pool “dirty” and “filthy” enroute to awarding one of his associates a no-bid contract to beautify it. But just days after the job was completed, at a cost of more than $14 million, algae is in full bloom throughout the pool, giving it the look of a Florida swamp. – Seen the pictures yet?

From VoteVets: The details for Trump’s “Iran Deal” have been released. With 13 Americans killed and up to $100 billion spent, Trump has agreed to pay Iran’s murderous regime $300 billion. There’s no nuclear deal on the books, and they control the Strait of Hormuz. The Art of the Deal.

Odd fact: Water can boil and freeze at the exact same time under the right conditions. This state is called the “triple point,” where a specific temperature and vacuum pressure allow water to exist as a solid, liquid, and gas simultaneously. Provided by PhysLink.com

So, we have a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran. From what I have read so far, it does not measure up to the agreement Obama had (with other countries) 11 years ago! But Trump will put his name on “it” and erase Obama’s, the goal anyway.

Reminder: Companies that have donated to Trump’s ballroom project have already received a staggering $50 billion in government contracts.

Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in favor of a Texas man who challenged a federal law that bars certain drug users from having firearms. – Good to know that your neighborhood pusher can defend himself, no?

More proof that Hegseth is incompetent: Two months after Hegseth’s regressive move, Air Force base faces major flu outbreak — Eight weeks after flu vaccines became optional in the armed forces.

A review of Vance’s new book: Writing a book has become a prerequisite for a presidential run, but as a professor who has read some awful writing, I find that Vance’s new book ranks among the worst things I’ve read. As has been reported, there’s a United Methodist Church on the cover of this book about converting to Catholicism, and that choice of illustration serves as a metaphor for the ignorance and inauthenticity found within. . .. and — He seems confused about what Catholicism is and doesn’t seem to understand that Christian beliefs aren’t the same as a list of conservative talking points. – on MSNOW

Most of you know that I support passenger trains, and belong to few groups that do also. I still cannot “get it” why Republicans want to kill off the few trains we have. One reason they say is that “Amtrak does not make a profit.” True. Never intended to. Most all nationwide transportation systems lose money. Airplanes? Without subsidies, they would all lose money. And don’t forget that trains use less energy and pollute less, per passenger mile, than cars or planes. True.

I am very slowly reading a book about the Spanish-American War (1898). One thing is how our navy beat theirs in battles in Cuba. One difference in ships was that they had wooden decks – polished, beautiful – and flammable!

A reminder that the two eaglets at Big Bear Eagle Cam look like they might fledge (fly off the nest) any day now! If you feel lucky, you might see one of them do it!

The Atlantic magazine has summed up what I also feel is wrong with college sports. In part:
In recent years, college sports have become an unregulated, high-stakes environment in which players are paid directly by schools and can transfer an unlimited number of times.

Well, Happy Fathers’ Day if you celebrate that. Also, the solstice.

Why don’t eggs tell jokes?
Because they’d crack each other up.
I am getting a nice dinner at a fancy Italian place today, amongst a few gifts. It would be complete if I could control world-wide events to my liking, but that will have to wait until I possess superpowers.
All take care,
Kevin
