Didja Know? Waylon Jennings has a son name Shooter. Really. Maybe he should get to know Sarah Palin’s son, Trigger.

A newly unsealed court filing shows the U.S. government opposes a plan to auction more than 100 artifacts recovered from the wreckage of the Titanic in the North Atlantic.
A note about Titanic stuff. Why do many feel that it is somehow sacrilegious to bring up stuff from that ship, but also heroic for treasure hunters to bring up valuables from wrecks of old sailing ships? I remember when the wreck of the Titanic was discovered, and some were saying the ship should be left alone, out of respect for the dead. What about the other ships’ dead?
That said, we have been to more than one display of artifacts, and it is amazing how much stuff they have displayed, including a piece of the hull!

From the New Yorker: We’re attached to our cars, and it shows. Collectively, Americans owe more than a trillion in auto debt, and, last year, 1.7 million vehicles were repossessed.
I also read that the average age of a car we own has gone up; not surprisingly, but over my lifetime, the construction of cars got way better. When I was a kid, it seemed everyone had a “car in the shop” all the time.

On Fathers’ Day we went to a local, fancy Italian restaurant. It was great. Had some of my favorites. One thing – they had a harpist for music. You’re thinking “harp” chords, etc. No, he was playing show tunes, and stuff we knew. He was playing it like a guitar. It was terrific. I asked him how long it took him to “get good” at the harp; answer – 30 years. He has been playing for 50 years an also handmakes harps. Amazing. I have a new respect for the harp!

Could be a short one this week. We were gone for a few days to our “usual” resort in the hills, east of Oceanside. Had a good time. Did not win at the casino, but hey, the tribe needs a new wing on their hospital.

Gotta root for the U.S. in the World Cup, but Cape Verde, too! Smallest country to get that far. I read that many of their players are “Cape Veridians” but born elsewhere, especially in the port city of Rotterdam, Holland, a place I have been to many times, so hey, why not root for them? And no, I do not know what so many are in that place. Seafaring folks?

The name “Reflecting Pool” wasn’t chosen for how it reflects Trump’s incompetence, was it? Or maybe it should have been?

Texas is on the way to requiring the Bible in public schools. It might be true that many of what we call “founding fathers” were Christian. But what about the “original Americans?” Does that mean we should teach the Great Spirit? It is a clear violation of our Constitution, but I think the right-wingers have so much trust in the Supreme Court to let them do whatever the hell they want to. Thanks, Mitch!

I read an article about how easier it was for a family to own a home in the 1950s than today. It adjusts for inflation, income, etc. I often think of my parents. Mom stayed home, Dad had a blue-collar job; they have five children. By the time the third was born we owned a home. We moved a couple of times to bigger homes. One of his jobs was as a jitney driver, which is a fork lift modified for use in a steel mill. I challenge anyone to have a job like that, a wife and five kids at home, and buy a house big enough for all of them today. Kids grow up today fully expecting that both spouses will have to have full-time jobs just to survive. Not so in 1950.

We have booked a cruise for late next year. It will be a celebration of 40 years of marriage. Our anniversary is late summer, but we are going to the Caribbean, and that is still hurricane season. We don’t fear the storms, the ships will go around, but they often divert to distant ports and no refunds, so . . . going after hurricane season. More on that as time goes by (I know, the song).

Sunday afternoon. We have a guest coming soon and we’re going down to the San Clemente pier for an early dinner. Think baked oyster’s au gratin, for me. So, I’ll end here and hope you all have a good day.
