Update 08/30/2026

I keep thinking that, in spite of my daily reading, I have missed something, i.e., Congress declaring war on Iran.  Or Venezuela?

…………………….

What If Dept.:  What if, just for a few years, we used 10% of the military budget to build or convert more firefighting aircraft?

……………………

“The yields have come back up since [Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s initial intervention in the bond market],” a reporter reminded the president. “Have you talked to him about another type of intervention? Is that something he will be doing?”

Trump replied, “We have many types of intervention. That’s one. The ultimate intervention is our military, and if we have to use that, we will.” – on the bond market, folks; the bond market.

From CBS News:  Trump puts autistic kids in the spotlight and cuts agencies built to protect them

Well, maybe RFK Jr. will tell you that there is no such thing as autism . . . and that road kill is ok to bring home and cook.  And that the sky is falling.

From Huffpost:  Trump Once Again Votes by Mail After Calling For ‘No More Crooked Mail-In Ballots’

……………….

This could get much worse:  WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for President Donald Trump to move ahead with his executive order restricting mail-in voting, though it remains unclear how much his administration can implement before the fast-approaching midterm elections.

………………

From ABCNews:  2 people die from measles in Pennsylvania, marking state’s first deaths in 35 years — The individuals were not vaccinated, health officials said.

I am thinking more and more that the pundit (Carville?) who said that a couple of days before Trump is out of a job, he will resign, so Vance can become president and pardon him (and family?) from all crimes they may have committed.  Oh, and Trump will pardon Maxwell just before that.

Sports.  I still can’t stand it how professional college sports have become.  I read about football or basketball players (mostly) who have played for 4 or even 5 schools in their eligible years.  Now there are pro players trying to come back to college to play there again!  Madness.

Some time ago, when I first learned of paying college players NIL money, I thought, well, if a school is making money selling, say, tee shirts with your picture on it, they should give the athlete a cut of the profits.  Okay with me. But that is not what happened.  The schools, mostly funded by alumni, are paying players even millions, like the pros.

He is truly shameless. Trump says that Dolly Parton really liked him, but couldn’t say it out loud for fear of losing some of her fans.  Ok to say after she died, eh?  Reminds me of him saying, after four US troops were killed in the Iran War, that they “all supported it.”

………………

A mixed cultural dinner here tonight – Cajun sausage and Polish Pierogies.

……………….

It does not stop.  Now Trump says he “is renaming” Lake Ontario to Lake America.  Oddly, I checked, and it is the smallest of the five Great Lakes . . .

Whenever I read about trials like the woman who killed her kids, I think that there should be NO “Innocent by reason of Insanity” defense, but rather a “Guilty by reason of Insanity” plea. No trial.  Right to the sentencing/treatment phase.

Notice how when Trump signs one of his hundreds of Executive Orders, he is so happy to show off his signature?  When I see that, I see a thought bubble above his head with the words, “Look, Mommy, I can write my name in cursive now!” coming out of his mouth.

From VoteVets:  A federal commission packed with Trump appointees voted 8 to 1 to advance the Arc de Trump — 250 feet tall, sitting on Memorial Circle, at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery.

They heard nearly three hours of public opposition first. Veterans. Families. People who understand what that place means to this country. The commission listened, then voted to advance the arch anyway. – Disclosure: VoteVets is a non-profit I support and subscribe to their emails, etc.  And yes, I am a vet, U.S. Naval Reserve.

One of my many former residences:

The city of Boston was ranked the best city in the U.S. for work in a study by job site Indeed that was shared with Travel + Leisure. While also considered an expensive city to live in, Beantown had “the strongest overall balance of career opportunity, compensation, mobility and quality of life.”

………………..

From CNN: Trump discloses 1,000 more recent stock trades.Filing includes purchase and sale of thousands of dollars of stock in energy companies directly affected by Trump’s war in Iran.  No conflicts of interest here, nah, can’t be!

………………..

Ever notice Trump’s right hand?  In all these years he still does not know how to salute or make a fist.

How Karoline Leavitt Debased Her Job

In an administration where everybody’s job is to lie on television, the role of the press secretary is redundant. – From The Atlantic
