Today’s useless fact (unless it wins you a beer on a bar bet):
Lancaster, PA., was once the capital of the U.S. – for one day.
OK. Another, and my favorite:
What is the southernmost cape in Africa?
A: Cape Agulhas. And yes, I have sailed by it and verified its latitude. And no, it is NOT Cape Horn or the Cape of Good Hope. Most people will guess those, and that’s how you win the bar bet.

From Huffpost: Federal agencies have been quietly removing what’s known as the Trump “loyalty question” from job applications, after a federal judge ruled earlier this month that it is likely unconstitutional.
Last year, the Trump administration started asking government job seekers to explain how they would “help advance” President Donald Trump’s priorities in their new role. They also asked applicants to name one or two favorites among Trump’s executive orders and explain how they would “help implement them if hired.”
–Loyalty questions? Why do I keep thinking we are in a time warp and stuck in 1937 Germany?

From CBS, and not surprising:
One UCLA study published earlier this year found that in states that legalized sports gambling online, bankruptcies and credit card delinquencies increased about 25%.
– I will make a bet in a casino if they have a sports book, but not online. Too easy! I often watch a game while in a casino, and a little wager can make it more interesting. I once won $40. on a $5. bet on what college football team would end the season as No. 1.
Here in Cal., we do not have sports books in our Indian casinos. It has been voted on and lost. But now you can bet the house online! I think maybe it is some kind of “silent” discrimination against the tribes.

If it is true that Trump asked Xi if China wanted to buy American weapons . . . wouldn’t that be, let’s see . . . treason??

Trump now says that that the AI industry leaders will “police themselves.” And he said the agreement was “morally binding.” Trump said that. About morals. Right. That’s like saying we can have paying taxes be voluntary, too.

A new poll shows Trump’s approval rating is 39%, and notes that is very low. I want to know who the hell is so stupid to still support him after six years of his presidency.

From ABCNews:
The U.S. Coast Guard announced on Friday the seizure of two ships bound for Cuba that were illegally carrying thousands of gallons of diesel fuel amid the ongoing fuel blockade to the country imposed by President Donald Trump.
–who says “illegal?” Us? Doesn’t Cuba have the right to import what they want to their country? And, as usual, something like this hurts the average person the most. Or, you think that we have the right to decide what cargo is legal in another country? Seizing ships like that is, lessee, piracy!

He is shameless:
President Donald Trump is promising more payments to voters just ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections — this time, to more than 20 million seniors, giving them $90 each to help pay for Medicare premiums.
The announcement, made late Friday night by Trump on social media, comes after the president last month said about 1 million people would get rebate checks of $500 for Affordable Care Act premiums. He has also promised on the campaign trail to send every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections. That pledge — which would require approval from Congress — would likely cost more than $1 trillion, adding to the deficit and worsening inflation.
Has he bought your vote yet? Wait, are you still waiting for the $5,000. he promised for Musk’s cost reductions, or the $2,000. he promised as a tariff rebate? Got all that yet?
…………………
Even more shameless, he announced a large steel plant will go into Iowa, in a politically close race district. Good? Maybe, but it is foreign-owned and the taxpayers in Iowa have to put up billions before it creates jobs. One estimate is that, over ten years, the Iowans will put up more than $700,000. for each job created. Good deal?
