Update 10/18/2026

If you watch any TV, you have likely seen a commercial where an older, distinguished guy, who can do anything, promotes Dos Equis beer.  At the end of the commercial, he looks into the camera and says, “Stay thirsty, my friends.”  I thought one goal of any refreshing beverage was to quench your thirst?  Well, if it doesn’t, good for Dos Equis’ sales.

More and more, Trump is ignoring the courts.  Lately with running government paid political ads, and cutting down 500+ trees on a public golf course after being told not to.  Gee, like Putin?  Kim?

………………..

For football fans:  The worst part of the new NFL season is all those Peyton Manning commercials.  The guy will shill for anything.

………………..

From The Atlantic: “In the past 72 hours, Donald Trump has dropped all pretense, torched a couple decades of American policy, and undermined 18 months of his own diplomacy. He lifted sanctions on the import of Russian diesel fuel, in violation of the letter and spirit of laws that he himself signed. He has threatened to stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine, unless Ukraine agrees not to target Russian refineries, thus demanding that Kyiv give up its most effective weapon while asking nothing from Russia in exchange. He has not criticized Russian attacks on Ukrainian power plants or factories, even those owned by American companies. He has offered no condolences for the recent deaths of Ukrainian children in Russian bombing raids.”

NASA–Astronomers discovered a massive vapor cloud surrounding a distant quasar 12 billion light-years away that contains 140 trillion times all the water in Earth’s oceans, making it the largest known reservoir of water in the universe.

–Think about the distance mentioned, and the volume of water.  I say even astronomers cannot grasp anything so far away or so large.  Beats me how they can even estimate such things.

I read comics most days. Some strips and editorials.  I sometimes look at the right-wing ones, too, just to see what they are saying/drawing.  Here’s a recent one:

–As you can see, they are equating the raid on Ilan’s house with the FBI’s on Mar-a-Lago to find dozens of boxes of classified documents, none of which were legal for him to have.  The cartoonist is suggesting the events are “equal.”  Seem equal to you?

……………….

This is nice:

Trump administration offering migrant children $3,000 to self-deport

So, a ten-year-old, by himself, can decide to do this?

Tweet I saw:

My wife and I always laugh at how competitive we are.

I laugh more.

Trump often says how smart he is.

The president said:

“You know, if they get in and you have a bad presidential election in the next, because we have some very good people. But if you had a bad presidential where one of these lunatics got in, you will, look at me right now, and you will say, ‘He’s going to be the last Republican president in the history of our country.’ I will be. I will be. I will be the last Republican president because they will add about 12 more electoral votes. They’ll add four more senators. They’ll add 10 more congresspeople, approximately. They’re gonna rig the Supreme Court through just a lot of people. They want to put a lot of people.”

–Of course, much is forgiven if he really becomes the last Republican president.

Starfish are not fish.

Jellyfish are not fish, either.

A prediction I don’t like but think will come true:

In his last months in office, Trump will resign.  Vance will be sworn in.  One of his first moves will be to pardon Trump and his family from any and all federal crimes.  Oh, and just before all that Trump will pardon that Maxwell criminal.  Well, of course, he’ll sell some other pardons, too.

Odd thing: Somebody went to a garage sale in Texas, bought a box of stuff – when he took it home, he found it had six WWII grenades in it!  Special cop unit came and yes, they were active!  No one hurt.

……………………

If true, this is treason to me, as Ukraine is an ally and Russia is our sworn enemy:

U.S. may have withheld warnings to Ukraine on deadly Kyiv strikes

The Trump administration may have withheld intelligence warnings to Ukraine about Russian strikes that killed 6 and cut power to 600,000 people, sources say. –CBS News

Over the last few years, I have noticed that almost no one who we socialize with wants to say one damn word about politics – even the Iran War, price of gas, etc.  Why?  In my travels to other countries, albeit years ago, foreigners talk politics all the time.  Many of them know more about our politics, and history, than most Americans.  Here, we all seem to fret over our personal lives and not much else.  You seemingly can’t even have a discussion or agreement on whether global warming is real, a hoax, or a danger.  Hint:  it is very real.  See, my opinion again, but you knew I would do that.  If really stressed, go to http://www.gocomics.com and read some old Peanuts cartoons or similar.  They have classics, too, like 1950’s Nancy cartoons.  Really.

Huffpost, reiterating something I have said for years:

Fueled by resentment over Obama’s humiliation of him in 2011, Trump launched a political career fueled by authoritarian desires for xenophobic and racist purges of unwanted groups from the country. – This was at that White House Correspondents Dinner.  Back in 2011, President Barack Obama mocked then-private citizen Donald Trump to his face at a White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner over the then-reality TV star’s conspiracy theorizing that the president was born in Africa and, therefore, ineligible to be president. So, Trump has endlessly attacked Obama Care, and cancelled the Iran Treaty Obama had (which was working, and yes, Hormuz was wide open).

Just what we need – more lethal weapons — On October 9, the Trump administration officially suspended large portions of the 1934 National Firearms Act to allow for the sale of silencers and short-barreled rifles and shotguns without federal authorization. The change marks an end to 90 years of regulation under the law. – Criminals must be happy.

Dad:  I bought a universal remote.  This changes everything.

Odd thing that works:

Need a cold beer and forgot to put any in the fridge?  Usual solution is to put one in the freezer.  Better solution, wrap the bottle is wet paper towels, then put in the freezer.  Works fast. Why didn’t I learn this when I was younger?

What war?

WASHINGTON — Rob Wittman, a Republican congressman from Virginia, doesn’t think of President Donald Trump’s war in Iran as a war.

“Right now, we are defending U.S. assets there, so there is no war as we speak,” Wittman told HuffPost after presiding over a “pro forma” House session at the Capitol.

Ah, the mother of the Oregon school shooter says she is “so sorry.”  She bought the gun for his 16th birthday and left it where the kid could get it. Perhaps taught him how to use it.  He fired at least 15 rounds and had another 44 in his pocket.  But perhaps her thoughts and prayers are with his victims.

A little over this week, need to stop here.  I am fighting mild depression over the ways the nut case right wingers seem to win, with billions at their disposal (thanks Musk, etc.).  I will recover.

All take care and God help us, Saul.
