Some of Donald Trump’s favorite world leaders have been scoundrels, bullies, and dictators. He keeps a picture of himself with the Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin on the wall of the White House. He claims to have fallen “in love” with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. He publicly supported Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, who has been chased from power, and Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro, who is now under house arrest for the next two decades. He just returned from China and gushed about how the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, is a “great leader” whom he’s honored to have as “a friend.” – The Atlantic

Didja see that the Trump $1.8B slush fund deal also says the IRS can not prosecute him or anyone in his family for tax evasion? What are they worried about? Such honest people.

Odd fact: Your body has enough DNA to stretch from the sun to Pluto and back more than 10 times. How tiny is that stuff? Not sure I believe this one.

This is part of a sports report. Guess what sport:
“Capsey added 64 from 35 balls with all-rounder Freya Kemp, who finished unbeaten on 31, to complete a comfortable chase which kicks off their T20 World Cup preparations.
Earlier, New Zealand – who will be defending their T20 title when the tournament begins in June – trudged to 136-7 after losing Georgia Plimmer to the first ball of the game, bowled by Lauren Bell.
Sophie Devine bludgeoned 45 from 22 balls including three sixes from Sophie Ecclestone’s opening over, but had little support from the rest of the White Ferns’ line-up.”

From MSNOW: The tobacco company Reynolds American donated $5 million to a super PAC backed by President Trump last month, about one week before his administration rolled out a new policy that could prove lucrative to the tobacco industry. – Gee, pay for play?
This from them also: The president has made no secret of his contempt for Rep. Ilhan Omar. It’s a detail worth remembering as his DOJ investigates the congresswoman.

Useless Fact of the Day: India is the birthplace of chess. The original word for “chess” is the Sanskrit “chaturanga,” meaning “four members of an army”—which were mostly likely elephants, horses, chariots, and foot soldiers. Provided by FactRetriever.com

From the AP: The Trump administration has fired the two leaders of an influential health group that determines when insurance must provide free preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies, for millions of Americans.
In letters dated May 11, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. notified the two doctors who chaired the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that he was terminating their appointments immediately.

When I see some of those huge banners with a picture of Trump hanging from government buildings in D.C., like the DOJ, I think about Iran under the Shah, or Iraq under Khomeini doing the same thing. North Korea too.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts on Thursday approved the design for the triumphal arch that President Donald Trump wants built at an entrance to the nation’s capital. Commissioners, all appointed by Trump, acted despite overwhelming public opposition to the 250-foot arch.

I first learned about The Congressional Record from our mailman in 1958. He got a copy every day. He was a very learned man, mostly because he would read the papers and magazines he delivered! But when I saw that Congressmen and Senators could add text to it, including speeches that they never gave, I lost interest. Staffers can edit their “mistakes” after Congress shuts down for the day, as well as add stuff:
Per CBS news: The Record offers a “substantially verbatim” account of the happenings on Capitol Hill, with everything said and done on the floor of each chamber, divided into three columns per page. It has a “Daily Digest” of chamber action and committee meetings, and a section for extensions of remarks, which allows House members to submit words they never spoke aloud on the floor — tributes to high school sports teams, their favorite recipes, the marking of anniversaries and so on. And: The inclusion of words that were not spoken on the floorhas served as the source of controversy for decades.
In other words, there is NO precise record of what is said in Congress.

Our current home improvement project is almost complete – paint whole house and remodel the deck, with new tile and a new barrier. They guys have done a great job and we will recommend them if asked. I am also thankful none of them fell off the deck, roof, or the high ladders they used! No sense testing the limits of our liability insurance.

Florida just passed a law that will allow high school coaches to buy things for athletes. What, shoes, clothes, a steak dinner? There are some limits, but who is going to count what they spend? The idea might be good, i.e., some coaches can afford to buy kids things . . . but what is to prevent some alumni from “helping” their teams? And, can the kids transfer schools to get more bling? “Hey, come play for us, coach gets us . . .. “
Rife for abuse. But hey, its Florida.

Solar power is the cheapest form of electricity to set up in most parts of the world. Tariffs are paid by U.S. importers, who pass along the costs to consumers. And noncitizen voting is extraordinarily rare.
These three statements are facts. Recent polls, however, show that substantial numbers of Republican voters simply don’t believe these statements. — MSNOW

I have learned in life that I should not expect the same level of intellect, ability, or performance from everybody – I was a teacher for several years, after all. So, at my level of wisdom, and age, I have divided expectations into two categories:
- Perfection from everyone else.
- Okay-dokey from me.

Memorial Day today. My Dad survived WWII, but I think of him on this day. He was a bombardier in a B-24 and did the 25 missions. I have a model of that plane hanging from the ceiling in my room, next to his crew picture.
